Obituary of Assunta Capalbo

Assunta Capalbo (nee Gencarelli), 75, of Woodland Park, passed away in her home on February 24, 2016 surrounded by her devoted family. Assunta was born on August 17, 1940 to the late Antonio and Giulietta (Renne) Gencarelli. In addition to her role as a loving caretaker to her husband, children and grandchildren, Assunta was both the back bone and the face of her son’s restaurant, The Mark, in Mahwah and later at Gienozzo’s Deli in Woodland Park. She was also a parishioner at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in Paterson. Assunta was the beloved wife of Joseph Capalbo, the adored mother of Roseanna Harrison and her husband Norman and Gino Capalbo and his wife Raffaella, and cherished grandmother of Melissa, Jennifer, and Lauren Harrison and Joseph, Dominick, Gino and Carmine Capalbo. She was the dear sister of Frank Gencarelli and his wife Nancy, Ida Perri and her husband Pasquale, Giuseppe Gencarelli and his wife Bridget, Carlino Gencarelli and his wife Antonia and Ettore Gencarelli. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday at 9:30am at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 70 Murray Ave., Paterson. Guests may arrive at the funeral home at 8:30am.
