Obituary of Samuel "Sam" Reda

Samuel "Sam" Reda, 92, of Woodland Park, passed away peacefully in his home on March 11, 2016. Sam was born in Paterson, NJ to the late Antonio and Rose (Sisca) Reda. Sam proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. Later, Sam became the owner of Reda & Sons Fuel Co. in Woodland Park. Additionally, he started The Fuel Oil Division and was a member of the Fuel Merchants Association of NJ. Sam joined the West Paterson Fire Co. #1 in 1946 where he served as a First Lieutenant from 1946-1953, Captain from 1954-1956, and Assistant Chief from 1957-1970 and currently remained as a dedicated volunteer member. Sam earned a place in the NJ State Exempt Firemen's Association and was a member of the NJ State Fire Chief Association. He was also a proud member of the West Paterson American Legion Post #238 and the Passaic Valley Elks #2111. Sam was the beloved husband of the late Jessie (Longobardi) Reda for 69 before her passing last March. He was the adored father of Anthony Reda and his wife Janice, Michael Reda and his wife Gina, and the late Robert Reda. He was the cherished grandfather of Mark, Ashley, Francesca, Giancarlo, Alexandra, Taylor and Michael. He was the dear brother of Arthur Reda and his wife Gloria, Beatrice Rotondo and her husband Tony, and the late Louis Reda. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral will be offered on Monday at 9:00am at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 70 Murray Ave., Paterson. Guests may arrive at the funeral home at 8:00am. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Passaic Valley Hospice 783 Riverview Drive Totowa, NJ 07512
