Obituary of Timothy J Mataya

Timothy "Tim" J. Mataya, 62, of Woodland Park, passed away on June 18, 2016. Tim was born in St. Louis, MO to the late Emil and Mildred (Sparks) Mataya. Most recently, Tim worked as a Quality Assurance Manager at Mersen in Boonton. In his spare time, Tim was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals. From his passion for collecting baseball card memorabilia, he began his own business, Sports Card City. In addition to sports, Tim had a love of playing cards and poker, gambling, going to the racetrack, playing pool and bowling. When his children were growing up, Tim was the proud coach of many of their baseball teams. He was the beloved husband of Christine (Gau) Mataya for over 41 years; the cherished father of Scott and his wife Jessica, Nick, and Kelly and her fiancé Adam Bajek; and the treasured grandfather of Bryce. Tim was the dear brother of Stephen and his wife Phyllis, Dennis and Victoria. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A graveside service will be offered on Thursday at 9:30am at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa. Guests may gather at Santangelo Funeral Home at 9am to proceed to cemetery.
