Obituary of Esther Berdan Salmanowitz

Esther Berdan Salmanowitz, (nee DeGroot), 88, of Paterson, passed away on August 26, 2017. Esther was born in Paterson on February 7, 1929 to the late Fred and Rebecca (Poultney) DeGroot. Before retiring, Esther worked as a cashier at several businesses.

She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond F. Berdan, Sr. and the late Donald Salmanowitz. She was the cherished mother of Raymond F. Berdan, Jr. and Pamela Philipp, Gary Berdan and his wife Mary, and Timothy Berdan and his wife Kathy and step-mother of Donna Hamilton and her husband Art. She was the adored grandmother of Ashley Berdan and Ryan Silvia, Amy Royer, Holly Berdan and Jim Pacelli, Timothy Berdan and his wife Danielle and Gregory Berdan; step-grandmother to Dustin and Jason Hamilton; and great grandmother to Carly Berdan and Jimmy Pacelli. She was the dear sister of George DeGroot and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter in law Margie Berdan and several siblings.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral service will begin on Tuesday at 9:30am at Santangelo Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
