Obituary of Francis J O'Byrne

Francis J. O'Byrne, 87, of Paterson, passed away on February 23, 2018. He was born in Paterson on July 13, 1930 to the late James J. and Mary (Lowe) O'Byrne. Francis proudly served in the United States Army from 1951-1957 and was a dedicated and longstanding member of the Knights of Colombus Paterson Council #240 for 70 years. Francis retired from the US Treasure Department.

He was a Eucharist minister and lecture at St. Joseph's Hospital Chapel in Paterson for 20 years and a parishioner and lecture at St. Bonaventure Church. Francis dedicated his time to charitable work especially at Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson, Martin DePorres and Sisters of Charity.

He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth O'Byrne. He was the adored uncle of James J. Sheppard, Ronald Sheppard, Marianne Nilan, Eileen Ricketts, Phyllis Sheppard, Tracy Sorensen, Roger Mazowiecki, Lance Mazowiecki, Mary Mazowiecki, David Maye, Steven Maye, Jean Maye, Barbara Maye, Elizabeth Koch and Patrick Maye as well as their spouses and children. He was predeceased by his sisters Mary M. Sheppard and Bernadette O'Byrne and his nephew Andrew Maye.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:15am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey St., Paterson. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
