Margaret Nahass

Obituary of Margaret Nahass

Margaret Hannah Nahass (née Kattine), 86, of Lincoln Park, peacefully passed away on June 23rd in her home, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born in Paterson on June 23, 1932, the youngest of four children born to Albert and Amelia Kattine.

She was married in 1956 to George Nahass and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past February.  After her marriage, Margaret devoted her life to her family. During retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Nahass traveled to witness the milestones of their family and friends seeing their children and grandchildren graduate high school, college, graduate school, medical school and business school around the country and the world. This was always her greatest joy.

In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived by her brother George Kattine, six children (Dr. Ronald Nahass (Dr. Rosanne), Dr. George Nahass (Margaret "Margie"), Diane Sabbagh (Gabriel), Ellen Haid (Mark), Lisa Nafash (Michael) and David Nahass), 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

For many years, Margaret was a leader at St. George Orthodox Church in Little Falls, New Jersey. It was the church in which she was married and she was a lifelong supporter and leader in the community.  In 1996, Margaret edited the church cookbook organizing and collecting recipes from the members of the church community which is used around the country by family and friends.

Margaret will be remembered for her courage through her life, her thoughtful kindness to the people she knew and to the people she met. A wonderful cook, she will be remembered for her tremendous culinary skills, her role as a host and entertainer. But most of all, Margaret will be remembered for her love for her family.  Every member of her family will miss the love, care and fun of their mother, wife, grandmother (“Teta”), great grandmother, sister and friend.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8pm at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 237 Long Hill Rd., Little falls. A funeral service will be offered on Wednesday at 10am at St. George’s Church and burial will follow at George Washington Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to St. George Orthodox Church in Little Falls, NJ.
