Obituary of Giovannina Santaniello

Giovannina Santaniello (nee Calabrese), 95, of Paterson, passed away peacefully at home on August 21, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born in Bracigliano, Italy on March 30, 1923 to the late Alfonso and Teresa (D'Amato) Calabrese and emigrated to America in 1958. For many years, Giovannina was a seamstress as a member of the ILGWU in Paterson and worked at Mayflower Coats in Paterson during that time. She was a loving homemaker to her family who enjoyed her delicious cooking always homemade with the freshest ingredients from her own flourishing garden. 

Giovannina was predeceased by her husband Giovanni. She was the beloved mother of Carlo Santaniello and his wife Mary Ann, Mario Santaniello and his wife Donna and Gerard Santaniello and his wife Rebecca. She was the treasured grandmother of Michelle Gates and her husband Michael, Karen Sorce and her husband Joe, Carlo Santaniello, Jennifer Kuebler and her husband John, Christine Fiorendino and her husband Darin, John Santaniello, Theresa Bursey and her husband Scott and Christopher Santaniello and Thomas Santaniello. And she was the adored great-grandmother of Jenna Sorce, Marissa and Michael Gates, Emily, Isabella and Liana Kuebler, Julianna and Steven Fiorendino, Jaxon and Brooks Bursey. Giovannina is also survived by her sister Assunta and her nephew Alfonso both in Italy.

Visitation will be Monday, August 27th from 4:00-8:00pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered onTuesday at 9:00am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey Street, Paterson, NJ celebrated by Monsignor Mark Condon. Guests may gather at Santangelo Funeral Home on Tuesday at 8:15am. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson.
