Obituary of Nicholas "Joe" Oliver

Nicholas "Joe" Oliver, 94, of Woodland Park, passed away on October 26, 2018. He was born on April 7, 1924 in El Paso, Texas. Before retiring, Joe worked as a foreman at Style Sportswear in NYC. In the 1960s, he was a Constable in Paterson and also ranked as a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #240 in Woodland Park. Joe was a devoted parishioner at St. Ann Melkite Church where he served as an Usher and also was the only singer of the Gospel in Arabic between Boston and Washington, DC. Most importantly, Joe was a humanitarian, he sponsored many immigrant families and provided work for the parents to provide opportunities for children to have bright and successful futures.

He was the beloved father of Olga Simunovich and her husband Robert, Nicholas, Raymond, Paul,Robert and the late Barbara Oliver. He was the adored grandfather of Mone Wieland, Rana LaBrunda, Nicholas Oliver, Jr., Renee Sturm, and Jonathan, Kristine, Lauren, Matthew, and Bennet Oliver and the great grandfather of 12. He was predeceased by his brothers Charlie and Normal Oliver and John Zeytoun and by his sister Josephine Malooly. Joe is also survived by his wife Shoumnie Oliver and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at St. Ann Melkite Church, 802 Rifle Camp Rd., Woodland Park. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 10am at St. Ann Melkite Church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Ann Melkite Church.
