Obituary of Ruth Hagen

Ruth Hagen, 97, passed away from natural causes on January 7, 2019 while sitting in her favorite chair. She was in Corona, California  where she spent the last 6 years of her life. Ruth was born on May 31, 1921 in Germany. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of 6 in 1927 and they settled in Paterson, NJ. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Hackettstown Hosiery Company. She was married to William Hagen in the early 1940s and they resided in Haledon for 68 years. Their only son was born in 1944. After his birth, Ruth worked at a screen printing company in Passaic with her husband for a short time to help put their son through college, but was mostly a homemaker for her entire life.

Ruth was a cherished member of the Haledon Senior group. She had a big heart and was so loving and she was the caregiver of her mother until the end of her life. Ruth treasured family time and outings to Shepard Lake and High Point. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for the family, especially authentic German food.

Ruth is survived by her 3 granddaughters; Erika Gist, Elena Beekman, Elisa Ali, and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hagen, her son, William Alan Hagen, and sister, Helen Collins.

Ruth will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband William at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa, NJ as she wished.

Visitation will be held at Santangelo Funeral Home on SATURDAY, JANUARY 19TH, 2019 FROM 2-4PM.

Burial will be private.
