Obituary of Joseph Luke Dowd

Joseph Luke Dowd, 96, of Paterson, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born in West Paterson on Christmas Day of 1922 to the late Luke and Anna Dowd. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943-1946. Before retiring, Joseph worked as a mechanical inspector at Singer Kearfott in Little Falls. 

Joseph truly enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, going to Atlantic City and the Meadowlands Race Track.  He was also a member of the VFW. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Carmella in 1982. He was the cherished father of Joseph Dowd, Jr. and his wife Cindy, and Linda Tirone and her husband Joseph. He was the treasured grandfather of Amanda Verde and her husband Davis, Kristen Dowd and Jessica Tirone. Joseph is also survived by his sisters-in-law Carmella Gamberale and Nancy Dowd, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brothers Thomas and John.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-8:00pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral service will be offered on Thursday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Pompei Church, 70 Murray Ave., Paterson. Guests may gather at Santangelo Funeral Home at 9:00am. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Joseph may be sent to Our Lady of Pompei Church.
