Obituary of Vito G. Mongelli

Vito G. Mongelli, 88, of Woodland Park, passed away on September 21, 2019. Vito was born in Alberobello, Italy on September 9, 1931 to the late Antonio and Cossima Mongelli. He left in 1951 for America to join the heart and soul of his life, who left Alberobello the year before to await his arrival.   Together they sparked what was to become a beautiful family and wonderful life through his extremely hard work, dedication to his wife and children, and with the immeasurable passion he had for the only woman he ever loved. He worked long hours for many years to support his family in the dye and textile industry, most recently retiring from Marijon Dye and Textile in East Rutherford. But for those who knew him, if he had perhaps pursued a singing career instead of dedicating everything he ever had in his life to his wife and family, he might have very well been the next Mario Lanza.

Vito was the cherished husband of Anne Marie (Matterese) Mongelli and the adored father of Joanna Damiano and her husband Donald, Barbara DeBenedetto, Anthony Mongelli, Mario Mongelli and the late Lisa Mongelli. He was the treasured grandfather of Ian, Jason, Brandon, MaryAnne, Francesca, David, Matthew, Alicia, Tyler, Michael and Catrina and the great grandfather of 11. He was predeceased by his sister Rose Camisa and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 4-8pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park.
