Dolores Smith of Pequannock NJ took the hand of her savior on Monday April 13 when she heard Him call her home on Monday April 13, 2020.  Dolores was born in Atlantic city NJ to Chester and Lillian Todd. Dolores was one of six siblings who grew up in Paterson NJ. She was a feisty Women who endured challenges in her life.  At a very young age Dolores lost her hearing and ability to talk when she developed pneumonia.  Despite this challenge she did not let it stop her from enjoying life.  Dolores loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them.  In January of 2011 Dolores was reunited with her first Son the late Donald Spano after 40+ years her heart was full of joy on being reunited with him, even though their time on this earth was short today their life in heaven together begins as they are reunited together and the celebration continues. Dolores found the love of her life Russell whom she knew for many years. And after some time they were set up by mutual friends and family and their Love journey flourished from there and they we married on July 22, 1972 in Totowa NJ.  Russ and Dolores enjoyed 47 years of marriage filled with Laughter, Sadness, Struggle but most importantly their marriage was filled with LOVE. Dolores was a determined lady who overcame many obstacles in her life, battling cancer, quadruple bypass and over the last 2 years suffering from COPD which on several occasions stopped breathing and was intubated and on ventilators but her feistiness brought her through earning her the reputation of “9 Lives”.  She was a tough cookie and a fighter who was not willing to give up on anything but as her body was growing weak with the struggles of the COPD  her lungs were struggling to fight the COVID 19 virus and feeling invigorated and breathing new air, taking the hand of Her Savior she walked to her new Home on Monday morning as she heard the voices in heaven welcome her home.

In 2014 Russell and Dolores moved to the Senior Living of Pequannock where she immediately got involved in the community and the events where she could be found playing bingo, Wii Bowling, scrapple and the many other activities they offered which brought her such joy.

Dolores loved her family and was always concerned about their well being no matter who or where they were at. Dolores was a welcoming person and thought nothing about the bloodline, she welcomed everyone as her family.  Dolores had many passions and she sure  loved a good bargain which she would find at Yard Sales, and Walmart  but nothing would compare with her passion of “Scratch Offs” no matter what she was going through her first response was “Where are my Scratch offS”  Dolores took pride in her appearance making sure she always had her hair cut and her nails done.  Dolores will not only be remembered by her feistiness but by her striking BLUE eyes that no matter who she came in contact with would always compliment her on.

It gave Dolores Great joy to be a member of Calvary Assembly of Woodland Park where to her everyone was Family.

Leaving behind to cherish her memories and life are the love of her Life of 47 years Russell, her children Eugene (Cindy) Umstead, Russell(Linda) Smith, Cheryl (Gary) Henning, William (Lynnette) Smith, Rev. Robert(Jennifer) Smith, Ethel (Joseph) Jackson and Tonya (Mario) Borda. 20 Grandchildren and 14 grandchildren. Her sisters Irene Aquilio, Marie DeWitt and Edie Shalongo  and her Brother Chester Todd.  She is predeceased by her Parents Chester and Lillian Sister Lillian Kuiper, and Betty Lou Umstead and her son Donald Spano.
