Obituary of Vito A. Russo

Vito A. Russo, 89, of Woodland Park, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2020 in his home surrounded by family. Vito was born in Jersey City, NJ on August 28, 1931 to the late Andrew and Rosaira (Grisi) Russo. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was also a member of the NJ Air National Guard. Vito was the owner with his wife of Occasions Cards and Gifts in Woodland Park, NJ and retired as a mechanical engineer for Star Glo Industries in East Rutherford, NJ. In addition to his work, Vito was a Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of America Pack #27. 

Vito was the beloved husband of Bernadette (Bienkowski) Russo, the adored father of Andrew Russo and his wife Deirdre, Cheryl Russo and her partner Rory Sortino and Diane Muggeo and her husband Frank and the cherished grandfather of Phoebe, Michael, Isabella, Jovanna and Drew. Vito was the dear brother of Mary and her husband Dr. Kit Carson and Phil Russo and his late wife Rita. He was the brother in law of Leon and Joseph Bienkowski and their families. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by Lisa and Frank Polzer and their children Olivia, Zachary, Megan and Rachel.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 9:00-10:00am at Santangelo Funeral Home, 645 McBride Ave., Woodland Park. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:15am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey St., Paterson. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa. 

Due to the COVID-19 state mandated limits, a maximum of 50 individuals are permitted in the funeral home at one time. A face covering must be worn by everyone in attendance at all times. In addition, please follow social distancing guidelines. Thank you for your compliance and understanding.
