Obituary of Katherine Cornetto Pitea
Katherine Cornetto Pitea (nee Schaper), 94, formerly of Woodland Park (West Paterson), passed away peacefully with her family in Georgia on September 19, 2021. Kitty was born in Ridgewood, NJ on April 1, 1927 to the late John and Adrianna (Rose) Schaper.
Katherine was a pillar of the community having served as the first female Marshall for Passaic County, a West Paterson Republican Councilwoman, Vice Chairlady of the Republican Party, a member of the West Paterson First Co. #1 Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the Passaic County Ladies' Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion Post #238, and a long time crossing guard in town.
She was also devoted to religion as evidenced by her membership at Valley Chapel in Clifton where she sang with the choir, her volunteering at the Hawthorne Gospel Church and Samaritan Aids Ministry and her involvement with the Senior Club at Our Lady of Pompei Church in Paterson.
Katherine was predeceased by her husbands Salvatore Cornetto and Hugo Pitea. She is survived by her five children; Victor Cornetto and his partner Ron, Salvatore Cornetto and his wife Janet, Sandra Majors, Richard Cornetto, Sr. and his wife Sandra and Michael Cornetto and his partner Jacob. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, their spouses, 26 great grand children and 13 great-great grandchildren as well as her brother Andrew Schaper and his wife Mauriel and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2021 from 4:00-8:00pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral service will be held at Santangelo Funeral Home on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa.
