Obituary of Guy J. Santangelo
Guy J. Santangelo, age 91, passed away December 22, 2008. He was born in New York City and lived in Lodi before settling in West Paterson and Pompano Beach, FL. Guy was a WW II Army Veteran serving in the Rhineland Campaign and Central Europe as a Sergeant with the 928th Field Artillery Battalion as Squad Leader of # 745. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon. Mr. Santangelo was a graduate of McAllister School of Mortuary Science, NY in 1955 and was president of his class. He joined his brother James at Santangelo Funeral Home, Lodi in 1952 and in 1963 they opened a second establishment in West Paterson. Guy was an usher at Our Lady of Pompeii R.C. Church; a charter member and past commander of Lodi V.F.W. Post 5082; West Paterson American Legion Post # 238; Passaic Valley Elks; Passaic Valley Kiwanis; Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Knight; Franklin Club of Paterson; Passaic County, NJ State and National Funeral Directors' Associations. Loving husband of the late Betty (nee Sedita). Cherished father of Angela Walton and husband James of Florida, Catherine Santangelo of West Paterson, and the late Charles "Chas" Santangelo. Beloved father-in-law of Jodie Santangelo of Little Falls. Devoted son of the late Cologero and Angelina (nee Gallina) Santangelo. Adored grandfather of James, John and Guy Walton; Marie Marro, Betty Ann Caggiano, Emily Anne Santangelo and eleven great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Catherine Brigandi, Josephine Facella, the late Rose Blanco and James Santangelo. Proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. Caring companion of Rita Hyland. Visiting hours will be Saturday, 7-9 pm and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., West Paterson. Guests may arrive at funeral home on Monday at 10:00 am then to Our Lady of Pompeii R.C. Church, Paterson for an 11:00 am funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi.
