Obituary of Josephine L Homsany

Josephine L. Homsany (nee Tahan), age 93, of Totowa, passed away on August 20, 2012 surrounded by her family. Josephine was born in Summit to the late Naim and Jamila Tahan. In addition to being a loving homemaker, Josephine worked as a seamstress and was a member of the Ladies' Garment Union. She was a parishioner at St. Ann's Melkite Church in Woodland Park and a resident at the St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly for 22 years. Josephine will always be remembered as being a master Syrian pastry baker. Josephine was the beloved wife of the late George Homsany, the adored mother of George Homsany and his wife Patricia, Shirley Karaty and her husband Ray, and Jean Marmo and her husband George. She was the treasured grandmother of Gerry, Greg, Gess and his wife Marlo, Georgia, Gerame, Gessica, and Garret Homsany, Ray Karaty and his wife Dawn, Charlene Karaty, and Steven Karaty and his wife Laura, Brad Marmo and his wife Andrea, Audrey Marmo, and David Marmo and great-grandmother to Nicky, Kayla, Ryan, Troy, Jenna, Ethan, Evan, Shawn, Austin, and Adam. Josephine was the dear sister of Albert Tahan and his wife Joan, sister in law to Jean Tahan and Frank Petriello, sister to Harry Tahan and the late Mary Petriello and the late Basil Tahan. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-8pm at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly, 140 Shepherd Ln., Totowa, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday at 9:30am at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
