Obituary of Joseph Appaluccio
Joseph "Lefty" Appaluccio, age 92, of Sewell, formerly of West Paterson and Fairfield, passed away December 4, 2009. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII. He was an active member of the West Paterson Fire Co. #2 for many years. He played an integral role in the founding of the West Paterson Boys Club and played baseball for the West Paterson semi-pro team as a left handed pitcher. He worked as a groundskeeper for West Essex Regional High School in North Caldwell before retiring. He was a former parishioner and employee at Notre Dame Church, North Caldwell. Beloved husband of Viola (nee Berghorn). Cherished father Mary Jane Baker and her husband Robert, Joseph D. Appaluccio and his wife Mercedes, John A. Appaluccio and his wife Susan, and Peter J. Appaluccio and his wife Jennifer. Dear grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Avenue, Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10:00am at Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ. Guests should meet at church for Mass. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.
