Obituary of Frederic "Zeke" Schaper

Frederic "Zeke" Schaper, 80, of Woodland Park, passed away on February 21, 2013. Zeke was born in Ridgewood to the late John and Adrianna Schaper. He proudly served the US as a member of the Navy from 1952-1956 on the USS Smalley and was responsible for blowing up the largest ammunition dump in North Korea earning one battle star. He later worked as a tow motor operator at Continental Can in Paterson. Zeke was an avid bowler, earning 3 Sanctioned 300 rings and enjoyed playing at Astro-Bowl, Parkway, and Lodi Lanes. He is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Lenore (nee Ripmeester). He was the treasured father of Kimberly Rose Schaper and her partner Angela Cuozzo. He was the dear brother of Rein Schaper and his wife Adrianna, Katherine "Kitty" Cornetto Pitea, Jacob Schaper and his late wife Cecelia, Andrew Schaper and his wife Muriel and the late Gertrude Bailey. He is also survived by sister-in-law Carol Ann Rezke and Patricia and Raymond Vigh as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:30am at Santangelo Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa.
