Obituary of Leonard Gold
Leonard Gold, 84, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2011 surrounded by his family. Len was born on May 15, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Morris Gold and Adele (nee Berns). Len was a self employed real estate broker and investment appraiser in Newark, NJ for nearly 40 years. He was later a proud member of the Santangelo Funeral Home staff for many memorable years.
He was an avid, international skier, a marathon bike rider, a beach lover and a nature enthusiast. Len was a devoted volunteer at the Princeton Hospital and an usher at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ for several years after his retirement. Len was a passionate animal lover who adored his beloved dogs; Katie Boo Boo was his basset hound for 14 years and Beatrice and Morgan were the canine companions he adopted later in life. Anyone who knew Leonard, knew that he defined the expression "A Man's Best Friend". Nothing excited Leonard more than reading a bestseller book, watching a foreign film, enjoying a tasty meal, or spending time with his family.
For a man who led a humble life, his impact was profound. He has been described by others as "one of a kind", "genuine", "sophisticated", "stylish", "warm", and "lovable". As his multiple medical conditions worsened, his youthful and vibrant spirit overpowered his aging body. His family will sorely miss his warm smile, raspy voice and unmatched charm.
He was loved by his daughter, Adele Jodie Santangelo, his son Dr. Jason Gold and his wife Abby, his son Daniel Gold, J.D. and his wife Maureen, his grandchildren Emily Santangelo and Lucas and Natasha Gold, Charles Marro and his granddog Cookie.
It is with gratitude and respect that Leonard's family acknowledges Dr. Robert Berkowitz and his staff for combining medical expertise with compassion and dedication. Memorial donations may be made to the:
