Obituary of Antonino "Nino" Merlo

Antonino "Nino" Merlo, 89, of Paterson, passed away on October 24, 2014. Antonino was born on June 5, 1925 in Gioiosa Marea, Sicily, Italy to the late Tindaro and Giovanna (Sidota) Merlo. Before retiring, Nino worked as a drywall taper for Russo Brothers in Paterson. Nino was the beloved husband of the late Maria (Granata) Merlo. He was the cherished father of daughter Giovanna VanderVoort and her husband Bruce and son Tindaro "Tom" Merlo and the treasured grandfather of Jennifer and Nicholas VanderVoort. He was the dear brother of Rosaria, Maria Tindara, Santa, and Nunziata and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday at 10:15am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey St., Paterson. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson.
