Obituary of Anthony "Tony" Mongiardo

Anthony "Tony", Mongiardo, 85, a Woodland Park resident since 1947, passed away on November 2, 2014 surrounded by his family. Tony was born on April 23, 1929 in Piermont, NY to the late Joseph and Teresa Mongiardo. He was later raised by Antoinette Mongiardo after his mother passed away. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army from 1951 to 1953. Tony owned and operated Valley Road Barber Shop in Clifton from 1967-1974. He then worked as a sales manager at Wilpat Enterprises until 1990. Tony worked at Passaic Valley Sewer from 1991 until he retired in 2002. After retiring, Tony enjoyed working part-time for DeBlock Environmental Service. In addition to his work, Tony served on the West Paterson Council for 6 years, the West Paterson School Board for 20 years, and the West Paterson Planning Board for 15 years. Tony was the beloved husband of Nina (Bendick) for 57 years. He was the cherished father of Joseph Mongiardo and his wife Dulce, Kathleen Laux and her husband Dean, and Richard Mongiardo and his wife Kim. He was the adored grandfather of Katelyn, Christopher and David Laux, Joseph Borges and his wife Evelyn, and Nicholas A. Mongiardo and the great grandfather of Freddy, Cielo, and Jake. He was the dear brother of Nicholas Mongiardo and his wife Vickie and Dante Mongiardo and his wife Paulette and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 70 Murray Ave., Paterson. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
