Obituary of John Henry Feenan

John H. Feenan, 88 of Woodland Park, NJ went to the Lord Monday May 6th surrounded by his loving family. John was born November 16, 1924 in Paterson NJ. He was a graduate of St. John's High School and Seton Hall University and New York University Graduate Program. John served in the United States Navy during the Second World War. He worked in the Passaic County Judicial System for over 40 years retiring in 1992 as Assistant Chief Probation Officer. In 1949 John married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Mary J. Healey. Theirs was a true love story having been married for 63 years and together raising their eight children. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary, his eight children; John J. Feenan, Gerard Feenan, Greg Feenan, Peter Feenan, Mary Nesnay and her husband Randy, Madonna Kochka, Frank Feenan and his wife Valerie, Maura Bilger and her husband David, his eleven grandchildren; Michael Kochka and his wife Lauren, Timothy Kochka, Mary Nesnay, John Kochka and his wife Eireann, Andrew Nesnay, Daniel Kochka, Kathleen Feenan, John Feenan, Ryan Bilger, Andrew Feenan, Bridget Bilger, his great grand-daughter Riley Kochka and many loving nieces and nephews. John adored his wife Mary she was his world and him hers. Together they were a master class in what marriage should be, loving and supporting one another through all of life's twists and turns. As a father, there could be none better. John loved each of his children deeply and being together brought joy to his life. He was so very proud of his grandchildren and how their lives were taking shape. The arrival of his first great-grandchild made him so very happy. John's was a life well lived; lived in service to others. He was a man who deeply loved his Catholic faith, his country, his family and his fellow man. He was a dedicated lifelong parishioner at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Paterson, NJ. His knowledge of history and the world was vast he was a great storyteller. He quite literally would give the shirt off his back, often seeing someone in need and handing them the gloves off his hands on a cold winter day, because as he would say, "they needed them more". He looked after people; it was what he did best. He was true and honest and always tried to do what was right with love and a fervent desire to help. He would sit endlessly with those who were ill; he would bring food to those who needed it, he'd give whatever he had to someone down on their luck, he would offer wise counsel to those struggling. Simply put, he was what we should all aspire to be. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly, Little Sisters' of the Poor, 140 Shepherd Lane, Totowa. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly, Little Sisters' of the Poor. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly, Little Sisters'of the Poor.
