It has been almost 5 years since Maria died but I just found out about it. Maria and her brothers and I were friends in Brooklyn. We lived on 78th Street. Paul and I were in the same grade but Maria was a year ahead of us. I was also friends with her cousins, the Pantages twins. We had a lot of fun together playing typical childhood games. I always wondered where life took Maria, I knew she would be a successful singer but had no idea how successful she was. I have such fond memories of her and her family. I wish I had known her in our adulthood. My condolences to her family.

Dear Ron,
I only just heard about the death of Maria. How very sad for you and your family. I will always remember Maria’s angelic voice and her beautiful smile. She was a gift to all who knew her. My heartfelt condolences to all of her family as you deal with the sadness of her loss.

My love and deepest condolences to Ron and her family and to everyone who knew and loved Maria. And I DO think that to know her was to love her.
She was always so kind and caring about everyone and she had a rare beauty that shone from within.

Maria was our very good friend. We will miss her very much. She was loving, caring person, who wanted only what was best for the world. She participated in many marches for peace and environment, had always kind words for us, made us laugh. We will never forget her lovely smile and the most beautiful voice in the world. Maria DeStefano was a wonderful person. She was warm, caring, and intelligent. She would get very upset when she heard of violence and injustice in the world. This was because she knew that the world could be a much better place, if only people would take time to resolve conflicts peacefully and if greed and hatred could be overcome with compassion and love. I will miss Maria very much. My thoughts are with Ron and her family.

I am so deeply saddened by this news. I loved Maria so much -- a woman of peace, passion and compassion, who was always supportive of my efforts to create a better world. I am also heartbroken for Ron -- I know how much he'll miss his wife of 52 years. They were the best of friends as well as husband and wife. There's a hole in my heart today big enough to drive a van through it :-(
