Pop-Pop loved his family. He sacrificed a lot and braved many obstacles moving to a new country, in order to give his family more opportunities. I will be forever grateful for his sacrifices and I am proud to be his granddaughter. I will never forget driving with him in Ecuador and dancing together at family parties. He loved grandma so much and his devotion to her is inspiring for us all. I hope we can all take peace in the fact that they are reunited and are watching over us.

Pa your smile made me smile, your laugh made me laugh, and your strength gave me strength. Everything you have done for me whether it was how you drove me to and from school everyday, or watched us for hours while we played outside, I will be forever grateful. Watching how you always put your family first will always inspire me to do the same, and watching the way you loved grandma will always be something that I look for. You were always there to remind me how much you loved me, and for the rest of my life that love will get me through anything. I love you always.

My heart is truly broken! You were the father I never had and I thank you for that. I can tell a million stories about our times together, the rides we took, because everyone who knows you understood driving was your life, even though it was a little scary sometimes. The trips we took together, especially the one to Ecuador, your place of birth. It was amazing seeing the actual place of many stories you told me about Ecuador ,it was one of best times of my life that I got to share with you ,Bertha and the kids! I love you,but you know that, because I told you! Thank you for being a great grandfather to my kids! I know you are happy now because you are with grandma. I will truly miss you, but I will never, never forget you ! I love you pa

Growing up Pa always used to take care of me. He would let me play whatever I wanted and he would try his best to play with me no matter how he was feeling. I remember he always used to call me by a specific nickname while he would watch and take care of me and that nick name was poopoo. It was a funny name that he would tease me with and I remember for a time I hated it but I grew to like it. When it came time for me to start taking care of him I began to call him by that same nickname. Even though he never really understood what I was calling him he would still laugh. Hearing that laugh would always brighten my mood no matter how I was feeling. The last thing I ever said to him was “see you later poopoo” while I held his hand for a moment not knowing that would be the last time. I am happy to know that he is happier now and that I got to take care of him and repay him just a little of what he did for me. He will live with me for as long as I live and his memory will never die. Rest in peace poopoo.

My grandfather was one of the kindest, honest, and funniest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He had taught me many things even as such a young age. He would always come and pick us up from school, sometimes it may have taken a little longer because we had gotten lost or maybe one of us decided that we wanted to go to Toys R Us. He always was a people pleaser and loved all his grandchildren above and beyond, I know he will be watching over us. I know he is happy up in Heaven with grandma and even though it has been hard on us to lose him we are trying to find peace in the fact that he is with loved ones.

It's the hardest thing to grasp reality at times, as it is for us now. Here is the reality for me: To man I call my dad, the gentleman that would teach us many, many things in life, how to love, respect, be grateful, generous and so much more... Could only be a man that makes this a better world!! I thank you for molding me into the family man that I've become. Dad, I have nothing but gratitude to an amazing man indeed, with so many talents and that SMILE to go with it. There are so many memories tucked away in my heart forever. You say hello to your beautiful wife that we all know you missed dearly, our mom. I take solace in knowing you are reunited. Peace and Love

You called me “cabeza de piña from when I was born up until the last few times you saw me. I always remember you being a hard working many who loved my Tia and your entire family. You are now resting and in a better place. My dearest condolences to the entire family as I know you will be missed! A photo below from many many years ago! Love Rosa Ramirez

With much sadness in our hearts, we would like to place a tribute to Ernesto Estrella... who was Ernesto Estrella? you may ask?... he was our dear uncle and compadre, he was a happy man, loved to dance and have fun, always teasing and making us smile, but also he was a hard working man, loved his wife dearly (our dearest aunt Bertha), loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. Our deepest condolences to Joe, Sam, Jackie, Ernie, Lucy and all the rest of the family. We lost a great man. He will be in our hearts forever. Manuel y Teresa Alava

When we were younger Pop Pop would pick us up from school and take us to the park. He would sit on park bench watching us play for hours, he would spin us faster and faster on the merry go round til we got dizzy but he loved to see us smile and laugh. He would walk the park path with us and let us go in the brook and never got mad at us for being soaking wet. We had fun times with pa and now he’s gone to be with grandma. I will miss all the great times with my pop pop. You’ll forever be in my heart.

Pop was an incredible human being (extremely hardworking, loving, giving & so generous, devoted to Mom & family, strong, quick with a joke and courageous). He & Mom immigrated to the US in the early 60's without speaking English or knowing what to expect. He sacrificed everything to make a better life for his family no matter what. I am eternally grateful & thankful for his support and encouragement which made it possible for me to attend & graduate from college. Without him & Mom this would not have been possible. His passion for soccer and NY Mets was contagious. Pop also loved a good party, he displayed such joy & energy while dancing it was something to behold and what a dancer he was. Love & admire you Pop, I strive to be like you.

In 1998 I was lucky enough to spend 2 weeks in Ecuador. Before we left he told me that while we were there he was going to help me find a husband named Paco. He had no luck but teased me for years he kept telling me he was looking for my Paco and he was wearing a white suit to my wedding. He was such a kind, fun, and loving man may he rest in peace. Patti

Will forever remember our long rides to Canada, as a child I would stay up, keep him company and chat for fear he would fall asleep. I was designated his co-piloto, (co-pilot). I enjoyed every single one of our conversations. You’ll always be in my heart. God blessed me with this man, I call pa and I am forever grateful.

Many lovely memories of Ernesto & Bertha... the melding of our families at holiday & special event celebrations; the dinners with Bob & I always trying to find quiet Spanish restaurants so we would be able to hear Ernesto's sweet, low voice; and my lunches with Berta talking about our lives and families. It was a gift that our paths crossed and we're grateful for it.

While my heart aches by your abrupt departure I will find comfort in knowing you finally get to rest along side mom. You will forever be remembered by me for your kindness towards others and your humor. You taught us love of family, integrity, and that hard work pays off. I will miss you but will carry you in my heart always ♥️ Love you dad, Lucy
