Marianne Egan posted a condolence
My father was a quiet man. He came from an era that Tom Brokaw labeled, “The Greatest Generation. He kept his emotions private, and in his life, actions spoke louder than words.
In his later years, he questioned whether he had been there enough for us. He wondered did he hug and kiss us enough or did he talk to us enough? One only had to look back on all the important things that a child needed to see that the answer was yes.
He taught us how to swim in the ocean, how to dive into the waves to not be wiped out. He taught us to ride a bike, drive our cars, and how to handle that car in the snow. He was there, always in his quiet way, and his death now leaves emptiness in our hearts.
When I reflect on my father’s life, I see a life lived with dignity and grace.
It is going to be odd moving into the future without him by our side. He was a rock solid presence in our lives for many years.
I know that he’s reunited with those who went before him and that theirs has been a joyful reunion. I know, too, that one day we will meet again but until then…I will carry memories of him in my heart knowing that as long as he is remembered, he will never be dead.
Rest well, Dad. You were a gentle man and a gentleman.

For Dee and Her Family
My Mother and I would like you to know that you have our deepest sympathy. Your father and your entire family holds a very special place in our hearts. A loss like this is never easy but find strength in the love of those around you. I find that makes it easier to deal with. Your father will be missed by many. Although we didn't know him well, we did know how inspirational he was in Beth's life and for that we are grateful.
Take care of yourselves and more importantly of one another.
Love,
Francina and Carol

Mr. Egan was such a dear man. Whenever I saw him he always had a pleasant attitude. I would call him Mr. Egan and he would say "call me Jim" - Mr. Egan will be missed by everyone at Echo Bay and my heart goes out to Mrs. Egan - I know u lost your best friend.
Sincerely
Bonnie Walls

When I think of the word "neighbor," an image of the Egan family immediately comes to mind. My parents bought a home directly across the street from the Egan's red house more than 50 years ago. Mr. Egan was a constant presence in our neighborhood as I played with Kathy. As a child I remember being shocked to recognize Mr. Egan as an usher at St. Bon's--I actually knew someone important enough to be an usher! During the past few years when I moved back in with my mother, I was reassured to see him. My mother had changed, but the neighbors around her were still the same. I am very sorry for your loss. You have my sympathy.

Uncle Jim was always the quiet one at family gatherings but when he spoke he had lots of interesting stories to tell. I always enjoyed listening to him talk. Whenever I visited, whether as a child or an adult, he always made me feel welcome as did Aunt Eileen. He will be missed. My heart goes out to Aunt Eileen, Aunt Bea, and Uncle Tim & Aunt Marie who have shared so many years of memories with him. And also to my cousins, Marianne, Cathy, Dee, and Vincent with whom I have shared so many memories with as well.
All my love, Jeanie

Eileen, Kathy, Maryanne, Vince and Dee,Vincent, Julianne and Jacqueline and the rest of the family:
This is a poem a friend of mine sent to me when my own dad died. At the time, it brought me so much comfort and it still does to this day. May it bring you the same comfort it has always brought me:
"We seem to give them back to You,
You who gave them to us.
Yet You did not lose them by giving them to us,
So we do not lose them by their return to You!
What You give to us,
You never really take away.
Life is eternal and love is immortal,
And death is only an horizon,
And an horizon is nothing but the limit of our vision."
My "second" dad...I feel so blessed to have had the honor of having your presence in my life!
Love,
Beth
