Obituary of James J. Egan
EGAN, James, age 88, of West Paterson, died February 29, 2008. Mr. Egan was born in Paterson, NJ. He was a proud member of the United States Army and served his country during WWII from 1942 until 1945 in the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion. His tour of duty included serving in North Africa where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He fought in Italy where he spent many months in Anzio, his tour continued with the invasion of southern France, and finally he crossed the border into Germany when the war ended. He became a charter member of the American Legion Bernard Armitage Post # 360, Paterson, NJ. Mr. Egan was also a long time parishioner of St. Bonaventure Church, Paterson, NJ where he was a member of the Social Concerns Committee and served as a church usher at 9:30 mass for many years. He worked for the United States Postal Service, Kearney, NJ and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He was a former Tax Assessor for West Paterson and was a member of the West Paterson Democratic Club. Devoted husband of Eileen (nee Brophy). Loving father of Kathleen DiPaola and her husband Giacomo, Marianne Egan, Vincent Egan and his wife Susan, Deirdre Sinski and her husband Michael Cottrell. Cherished grandfather of Vincent John Egan, Julianne Egan and Jacqueline Sinski. Predeceased by brother Edward Moran. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Avenue, West Paterson, NJ. The funeral mass will be Tuesday at 9:00 am at St. Bonaventure Church, Paterson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Passaic Valley Hospice, 783 Riverview Drive, PO Box 1007, Totowa, NJ 07511-1007 in his memory.
