Obituary of William E Hussey
William E. Hussey, Jr., age 91, of Totowa, passed away on August 20, 2012 surrounded by his family and the caring staff at Little Sisters of the Poor, his home for the last twelve years. William was born in Manhattan to the late William E. Hussey, Sr. and Anna (nee Kane).
William proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. While serving in the military he entertained fellow sailors by acting and dancing in a theater troupe. William was a Deacon at St. George Church in Paterson and for the Diocese of Paterson, further serving as a Chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital for 35 years, a proud member of the first class of the Diaconate, in 1973, a member of the Toast Masters of Clifton, a member of the Knights of Colombus in Totowa, and the former parking commissioner for the City of Paterson. He later was a prolific writer of Christian novels including his published novel, The Pitch.
William was the beloved husband of the late Sally (nee Stoyan). He was the adored father of Kevin Hussey and the late James, Helen and William Hussey, III. He was the treasured grandfather of Kathleen Shadiack, Edward and Michael Eitel, Tammie Gerum, Thomas Hussey, Kimberly Purcell and Aaron Maroney, the great grandfather of Stephen, Thomas, Brian, Kenneth, Karissa and Hunter, and great-great grandfather of Grayson. Forever dedicated to his family, following the passing of his daughter Helen; William legally adopted her two youngest children Thomas and Tammie and watched over her older children, Eddie and Mike.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly, 140 Shepherd Ln., Totowa, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday at 10:30am at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
