66 Year Legacy - West Paterson Fire Chief
Paul Salomone Sr., age 86, of West Paterson, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2011 after suffering from a massive heart attack on Thanksgiving evening. Paul was born in West Paterson to the late Rose (Fico) and Guiseppe Salomone.
Beloved husband of 63 years to Dorothy (McKeown) and loving father of Joseph Salomone, Sr. and his wife Marianne of Pompton Plain and Paul Salomone, Jr. and his wife Cecilia of West Paterson. Grandfather of Joseph Salomone, Jr., Brian Salomone, Kelly Gilligan and her husband Patrick, Lauren Diakakis and her husband Nicholas, Jaclyn Salomone and Katlyn Salomone. Great grandfather of Riley, Joseph and Matthew Gilligan. Dear Brother of Mary and her late husband William John and Josephine and her husband Salvatore Piptone.
Paul worked for Brown Bindery for 46 years and owned a part time electric business, Paul's Electric Service since 1952. He also worked with his sons, Joseph and Paul and grandsons Joseph Jr. and Brian in their family business, Salomone Bros., Inc. of Wayne.
Paul was a member of the West Paterson Fire Department for the past 66 years and was Assistant Chief (1951-1971) for 20 years and department Chief (1972-1976) for 5 years and was serving as Assistant Chief since retiring as Chief in 1976. He was Superintendent of the West Paterson Fire Alarm System retiring in 2000. Paul, Sr. was the true meaning of a volunteer Fireman. His life revolved around Rifle Camp fire Co. #3.
He was a member of the Passaic County Electrical Contractors Association. Dad's famous saying was "Your name is everything, a good reputation and hard work, and you have everything". He will be missed by his family, friends, and brother firemen.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 7-9pm and Friday from 2-4 &7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 9am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey St., Paterson. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa, NJ.
