Obituary of Rita Barra

Rita Barra (nee Scalzitti), age 86, a lifelong resident of West Paterson, passed away on March 31, 2012 at home surrounded by her family, a particularly special day as it would have been her 67th wedding anniversary. Rita was born in Paterson to the late Nicholas and Nellie Scalzitti. Before retiring, Rita worked as a clerk at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson. She was a parishioner and member of the Small Christian Group at Our Lady of Holy Angels Church in Little Falls, NJ. Rita was the beloved wife of the late Julius Barra. She was the cherished mother of Lynda Hade and her husband Thomas, Eileen Gilabert and her husband Mario, Camille Lawler and her husband Jim, Teresa Muscara and her husband Jim and mother-in-law of Sam Varcadipane. Rita is the adored grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitiation will be held on Sunday from 7-9pm and Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday at 11:00am at Our Lady of Holy Angels Church, 465 Main St., Little Falls. Guests may arrive at the funeral home at 10am. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Holy Angels Building Fund.
