Obituary of Angelo Joseph Maratta

Angelo Joseph Maratta, age 91, of Toms River, NJ, formerly of West Paterson, NJ, passed away on August 13, 2015. Angelo was born in Paterson, NJ on August 28, 1923 to the late Carmelo and Carolina (Mantione) Maratta. He proudly served as a member of the United States Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946 during WWII. He became a Tec 5 as a high speed radio operator, served in the South Pacific during the liberation of the Philippines. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Good Conduct and Victory Medals. He was a carpenter for over 55 years and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #124 of Passaic County. He was a member of the Italian American Club of Totowa since 1959. After retiring, Angelo was active at the Holiday City South Carpenter's Shop as a Super and a member of the Holiday City Radio Club. He was also active with bowling, Bocci and card playing. He was the beloved husband of the late Angelina J. Maratta for over 62 years before her passing in 2010. He was the cherished father of Judy Assalone and the late Pasquale Assalone, Angelo & Sandra Maratta and Charles & Andrea Maratta. Adored by his grandchildren Lisa & Phil Kozak, Angelo III & Charlene Maratta, Christopher Maratta & Audra and the late Vincent Daniel Assalone. Also survived by his devoted great-grandchildren, Shane Assalone, Steven DiPaola, Jr., Summer & Bailey Maratta, Christopher Maratta, Jr. and Kelton Philpot. He was the dear brother of the late Sam Maratta, James Maratta, Jennie Pellitteri, Josephine Maratta and Mamie Cocilovo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held on Wednesday from 3-7pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Ave., Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered Thursday 10:30am at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 70 Murray Ave., Paterson, NJ. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.
