Obituary of Raymond Joseph LaConte
Raymond Joseph LaConte, 89, of Totowa, a resident of West Paterson for almost 40 years, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016. He was born in Paterson, NJ on May 26, 1926 to the late Thomas and Agnes (Delaney) LaConte. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. Before retiring, Raymond worked as a writer and editor for the Paterson Evening News. After retiring, he spent many years working as a security guard. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Bonaventure Church in Paterson where he was also a member of the parish council, a lector and an usher. He was a proud Secular Franciscan and a former Hall Monitor for CCD classes. He was also a Pica Club Member where he formerly served as President.
A deeply religious man who loved God, country and his family, and always had time for all that he loved. He was a great teacher and role model of unconditional love to everyone he met. Raymond was a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan who personally witnessed Bobby Thomson's famous home run known as "the shot heard round the world".
Raymond was the beloved husband of the late Bette LaConte for over 59 years, the adored father of Raymond Vincent LaConte and his wife Myriam, Robert John LaConte, Virginia Lee Caroselli and her husband Joseph Anthony, Jr., Darlene Forte and her husband Eugene, and Cheryl Lynn Spadafora and her husband Thomas; and the treasured grandfather to Thomas Ryan Spadafora, Michael Brandon Spadafora, Gina Noelle Valega and her husband Eric, Christy Michelle Caroselli and her fiancé Chris Dooney and their son Lucas Christian Dooney, Tiffany Brielle Caroselli, and Laura Ferchak and her husband Bill and their children Katherine, William, and Marissa. Ray was predeceased by his brothers Donald and Thomas LaConte and is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as his step sister Angela Schmitt.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at St. Joseph's Home Little Sisters of the Poor, 140 Shepherds Lane, Totowa, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday at 10:15am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey Street, Paterson, NJ. Guests may arrive at St. Joseph's Home Little Sisters of the Poor at 9:15am. Cremation will be private by the request of the family.
